A familiar title does not guarantee a familiar screening. Check the language, cut, format and local date before buying.

A real example: Princess Mononoke

At the September 7, 2026 check, Fathom listed September 26–30 for its Studio Ghibli Fest event and offered dubbed/subtitled filters. Those are event-level choices; the page did not establish which screening is available at your local cinema. Fathom’s event listing.

GKIDS also describes a 4K restoration presented in IMAX beginning March 26, 2025. That earlier announcement must not be treated as proof that every 2026 screening is IMAX. Match the format to the particular booking, not to a poster or an older trailer. GKIDS’ restoration information.

The four checks that prevent the wrong booking

1. Local showing. Choose the cinema and date before sending the plan to friends. A national event range is not a local showtime or a seat guarantee.
2. Language. Match dubbed or subtitled on the actual session. If the ticket page is unclear, resolve that with the venue before buying.
3. Cut. Look for an explicit theatrical, extended or director’s-cut label. A longer event runtime could include extra material; it does not prove a different film cut.
4. Presentation. Treat 4K, IMAX, a restoration and anniversary programming as separate claims. Only promise your group what the specific event confirms.

Keep the original film year

The trailer archive identifies Princess Mononoke as the 1997 film. A return screening belongs in the release details; it does not turn the film into a new 2026 production. That distinction matters when searching for remakes, adaptations or similarly named titles.

Then decide whether the outing is worth it
